Welcome to the Volunteer Hider Booking Page for our K9 Training Exercise. Please follow these instructions carefully to ensure a safe and effective training experience.

Exercise Overview:

  • Start Time: 5 PM on Friday.
  • Duration: You will be in the woods for approximately 12 hours before K9 teams are dispatched.
  • K9 Team Dispatch: Saturday morning at 7 AM.
  • Going home: Around 12 PM Saturday.

Steps to Volunteer:

  • Must be in good physical and mental health.
  • Comfortable with an overnight outdoor stay.

Pre-Exercise Preparation:

  • Inform: Notify your emergency contact and the exercise coordinator of your participation.
  • Health Check: Ensure you are physically and mentally fit for an overnight stay in the woods.

What to Bring:

  • Basic Survival Gear: Small tent or weather-appropriate sleeping bag, waterproof ground cover.
  • Clothing: Weather-appropriate clothing, extra layers for nighttime, waterproof gear, sturdy boots.
  • Food and Water: Non-perishable food for 24 hours, minimum 2 liters of water.
  • Safety Equipment: Flashlight or headlamp with extra batteries, whistle, first aid kit.
  • Miscellaneous: Insect repellent, sun protection, a hat, a map of the area, and a compass or GPS device.

On the Day of the Exercise:

  • Check-In: Report to the designated area for a briefing session at the specified time.
  • Scent Article: Provide a scent article for the bloodhounds as instructed.
  • Travel to Hide Site: Proceed to your hide site, approximately 1 mile from the starting point.
  • Set Up Camp: Set up a discreet yet safe sleeping area.

While Hiding:

  • Stay Put: Remain in your designated area until found or otherwise instructed.
  • Be Alert: Be aware of your surroundings and any potential hazards.

Post-Discovery:

  • Debrief: Return to the starting point for a debriefing session.
  • Feedback: Provide feedback on the dogs' performance and your experience.

Safety Guidelines:

  • Emergency Contact: Always have a way to contact the coordinator in case of an emergency.
  • Do Not Disturb Wildlife: Respect the natural environment and avoid disturbing wildlife.
  • Stay Informed: Be aware of weather forecasts and any potential changes in conditions.
